Samsung Display: Restructured and Raring to Grow

By now, many of you have heard that we turned our LCD Business into a separate, wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics to help us grow market share at an even faster pace than we have done in recent years. This is not simply a corporate restructuring, but rather a foundation for rejuvenating efforts to lead the display industry in attaining bigger and better results.

Not only did we make our LCD Business a new subsidiary, but in a few weeks, we also will have moved two other valuable assets into the same subsidiary –Samsung Mobile Display and S-LCD Corporation.  It’s a new beginning for the largest display manufacturer on the planet.  And, since Samsung Mobile Display is heavily involved in bringing Samsung’s pioneering OLED technology to market, you can quickly see that the new Samsung Display Company will be much more than LCD redux.

OLED or organic light emitting diode technology holds tremendous promise for the future – for the world of television as well as for mobile devices.  But strong growth will also resurface in the LCD sector.  You will see LCD technology making new strides as the market for televisions rebounds.  In considering the overall display business, this is a marriage of tremendous potential.

The market for LCD panels will remain strong in many areas, while OLED TV displays make a grand entry later this year.  We have no doubt that the market can and will embrace both OLED and LCD panels.  Already we have seen a great deal of interest in OLED technology for mobile applications and soon that will carry into the TV realm.  So too, LCDs have been strong in virtually every sector.

As demand for TVs picks up again, market share will increase for well-positioned companies like us.  We are determined to be not only the world’s number one display manufacturer, but also the center of multi-display innovation well into the future.   Watch us as we grow.
