I had the privilege of attending the 2013 International CES keynote presentation by Dr. Stephen Woo, president of Samsung’s System LSI business in our Device Solutions division on January 9. In his presentation, Dr. Woo discussed the hidden enablers of the mobile revolution: components that are advancing faster than the devices that they are powering. He painted a compelling picture of application processors displays and memory as true enablers of the mobile phenomenon.
Dr. Woo referred to these components as the engine behind innovation across the mobile landscape, saying, “Components are building blocks – the foundations on which devices are built.” I’m excited to see the importance placed on leading-edge components in mobile devices and the huge crowd that came out to see Dr. Woo. Truly, this represented a ‘coming of age’ milestone for mobile components. Indeed, the latest advancements in component technology are quite impressive.
Throughout his presentation, which also featured intriguing chats with major Samsung partners, including Microsoft, HP, ARM and Electronic Arts, Dr. Woo repeatedly emphasized component synergy, performance innovation and greater power efficiency. Mobile devices are largely enabled by the strident component advancements taking place in these areas – benefitting the devices themselves and the data center infrastructure behind them.
We’re excited about the work we’re doing with our partners and customers to bring next generation solutions at the component level that continue to fuel the rise of mobility, and we look forward to all that is to come in 2013. There’s no slowdown in sight.
